two flimsys done!

This has been a productive week!  I put eyes onto my elephants, birds, turtle and frog and then sewed the rows together for the top to "The Elephant Parade" on Wednesday.  Then today I sewed the blocks of my "Irish Chain Twist" together to complete that top.  I only have the picture today of the Irish Chain, but hopefully I will quilt these two tops in the next two weeks.  The Irish Chain is done in red, white and blue with golden pinwheels.  Once it is done, I will donate it to our local veterans home.
I also sewed the "hanging quilt" block for Dreamworthy's QAL that I will swap this month.  They are such cute blocks!!!!

house-bound again!!

For the second time this winter, I was house-bound.  Our area got a 10" snowfall Thursday morning so my road was impassable for several days.  I got a little sewing done, but I am excited to see the sunshine and think that spring might really be here!

The first block is the March block in the Galaxy of Stars quiltalong; the second is my weekly assignment for the irish chain quiltalong.

irish chain twist quiltalong sewing

I finished this week's assignment for the irish chain twist quiltalong.  It's great to have the quilt making broken up into small segments to do each week!!!  I'm making a veterans quilt with this.  My guild donates quilts every year to veterans at our veterans home.

lots of sewing during snow days!

Today I finally ventured out after being snow-bound for 7 days!  It was really exciting.  Of course the first place I went to was my favorite quilt shop!  But the snow did allow me to get a lot of sewing done.  I finished this week's assignment for the Irish Chain Twist quiltalong and the turtle block for the Elephant Parade quiltalong.  What a cute baby quilt the elephant parade is!!!!  Also finished a UFO quilt top that had lain in a bin for almost 2 years and did some paper piecing.  Made some pillowcases for grandchildren.  Unfortunately I also added some items to my "to do" list so I really am not getting ahead.  Oh, well.

lots of snowing

The good thing about being snowed in is that you can get a lot of piecing done!  I've kept busy sewing the January and February blocks for the zoo animals quiltalong, the pink blocks for the soscrappy quiltalong, the January and February blocks for the galaxy of stars quiltalong, and blocks for the pinwheel Irish chain quiltalong.  I also sewed the pincushions for dreamworthy's quilters garden, but I still need to embroider the pins, so I'll wait to take photos until I've done that.

the elephant parade -- frog block

This morning the pattern for the frog block in the elephant parade quiltalong from Sew Fresh Quilting
was revealed.  So I had to sew him up and he is very cute.  I've been putting my blocks together as possible, so now row 1 is complete except for the borders and the elephant eyes.  Such a cute pattern!!

Yesterday I made a sewing machine apron for a friend.  It turned out well, I thought, and I know she will enjoy using it when she takes her machine to classes or to our guild's sewing fun-days.

irish chain

I finished cutting for the irish chain quiltalong!!  I'm going to make a veterans quilt to donate.  I thought the pattern would be pretty for a woman vet, yet still very patriotic.

january blocks

January is almost over.  I didn't get as much quilting done as I wanted to, but I made some progress.  I finished my block to swap for the Quilted Garden and made 3 other blocks.  I still need to make one more, but I guess that can be moved to February.  I made the two blocks for the So Scrappy challenge and then decided, as long as I was in my scrap bins, to make some blue spinning stars.  I made this foundation pieced quilt 10 years ago in pinks and greens and purples and gave it to one of my daughters.  It was fun to make and I've always wanted to make another one.  So I made four blue blocks and then couldn't resist making a green block and a purple block (the green and purple scrap bins were right next to the blue one and calling my name!!!).  I also finished the 25 blocks for Bonnie Hunter's 2014 mystery quilt and need to lay them out and sew them together.  You may not be able to read it, but the first quilt shop is "The Pines Quilt Shop" and the third is "Butterfields".  They were really fun to sew!!!  Thanks to Deanna for doing this block swap.

so scrappy blue blocks

I finished my two blocks for January for the So Scrappy challenge.  I also looked at the posted blocks and was blown away with the creativity and color combinations of so many of the quilters.
